What is the New Faculty Academy?


This is a year-long program with monthly events aimed at enhancing new faculty鈥檚 long-term career success at 快活林性息. These events range from panels, workshops, and even informal lunches. In addition, we will learn valuable time management, productivity, and balance skills through the


This program is ideal for first-year faculty (tenure-track and lecturers) as well as 鈥渘ewer鈥 faculty hired during the past 3 years. Upon successful completion of the New Faculty Academy, you will earn a certificate from Faculty Development that can be added to your future evaluation and rehiring materials (e.g., Personnel Information File/PIF).


Program Objectives


New faculty will have the opportunity to develop critical faculty skills such as: planning your semester, time management, developing the art of saying no, engaging in healthy conflict, developing a writing practice, cultivating an academic network, and managing stress and rejection. By the end of this year, faculty who complete all of the required parts of the program should be able to:

  • Recognize & use the most critical information to navigate the first years at 快活林性息 effectively;
  • Distinguish the resources and campus efforts that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Create authentic connections and relationships with students, faculty, staff, and essential campus partners;
  • Implement strategies that will increase confidence and wellbeing as a 快活林性息 faculty member;
  • Identify and affirm the multiple identities of our campus community.

Year-Long Topics & Activities


Each month a session will be offered on campus. Participants seeking a completion certificate, in addition to attending the monthly sessions, will also be invited to join a Canvas course to complete asynchronous activities. Monthly topics may include:

  • Exploring Your Strengths as New Faculty
  • AI in the Classroom
  • Building Capacity for Your Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities
  • Engaging in Purposeful Service Opportunities
  • Navigating Struggles and Creating Balance
  • Preparing Your First Professional Information File (PIF)

Apply to Join the 2024-2025 New Faculty Academy


Are you ready to commit to creating a positive听community with an interdisciplinary group of newer faculty to achieve the above program objectives? Priority will be given to first-year faculty hired in fall 2024.


Once you are accepted, you will receive an email from the co-facilitators Nayan Ramirez (New Faculty Foundations Fellow) and Marcy De Veaux (Associate Director of Faculty Development) and be invited to join the complementary Canvas course.


We will meet each month from 1:00-2:15pm in FacDev Commons on the Fridays listed below in the tentative schedule.
