Students: Gmail
Students are issued a 快活林性息 email account when they apply to the University. You should have received a letter from Admissions and Records with your 快活林性息 email address and initial password. Use this information to access your account for the first time. Your 快活林性息 student听Gmail听account serves as your official email account with the University. This means that the University will use it for official communications and you are responsible for monitoring this account.
Go to the听听and sign in with your听@my.csun.edu听email prefix (e.g. jane.doe) and 快活林性息 password. If you don't know your email address, log in to the听听and go to the Student Center (SOLAR). Your student Gmail address is located under Personal Information.
If you don't have your initial password, contact the听IT Help Center听in person or by phone. If you tried using your 快活林性息 password and this did not work, reset your 快活林性息 password and try again.听
New 快活林性息 Portal Instructions
All 快活林性息 related emails are sent to your student email account, but you may choose to forward them to another account of your choosing.听PLEASE NOTE:听do not skip any steps in the process, especially step 10 or the process will not be complete.听
Once this process is complete, email will be forwarded and NO copy will remain in your Gmail account. If you wish to retain a copy, use the forwarding feature in Gmail.听
- Log in to the听快活林性息 Portal.听
- Select听Profile Options.听
- Select听my快活林性息profile.
- Under听Personal Information, select the听Campus Email Address听link.听
- Add a new email address or select an existing non on-campus type email address.听
- Select the听Forward To听checkbox.听
- Select听Save.听
- The听Save Confirmation听screen displays. Select听OK.
- After saving, you will also receive an email confirmation like the one below:
- IMPORTANT: After receiving the above email from SOLAR you will receive another email from Google asking you to confirm that you want to forward your 快活林性息 Google email to another address. Click on the link in Google to confirm you want to forward your 快活林性息 Google email to another email address.听 It may take 1-2 days to process the request once you conform by clicking on the link. Your email will not be forwarded unless you complete this final step in the forwarding process.
What do I do if I never received the verification email?
When you sign in听听you will see an "Account verification needed" message there, with an option to resend the verification email.
Just click on the link there to resend the email. You can repeat the process multiple times, which may sometimes be necessary if your email provider is experiencing technical difficulties.
In short: If you have not received the email with the verification link sign in to your Google account to resend it.
An alternative to downloading Gmail content is sharing that content with another account. For example, if you want to share your 快活林性息 Gmail account content with your personal Gmail account, you can delegate access to that account.听
To share content with another Gmail account:
- Log into your Gmail account
- Click the Settings icon in the top right corner
- Click See all settings
- Click the Accounts tab
- Scroll down to Grant access to your account
- Click Add another account
- Enter the email address of the person you want to add
- Click Next Step
- Click Send email to grant access
- The person you shared your inbox with will receive an invitation email
- When the person accepts the invitation, their status will change from Pending to Accepted
- The person can switch to your account and access your inbox听
- 听(When prompted for your username, enter your @my.csun.edu email address)

Please review the following storage quotas:
- Applicants: 1 GB
- Enrolled/Active Students: 25 GB
- Graduated Students: 0 GB (Their email will need to be forwarded if they want to retain the address)
Faculty & Staff: Office 365听
The email system for 快活林性息 faculty and staff is Microsoft Office 365 and there are different ways to access your account.听To learn all about Office 365, please view听听(must log in with your 快活林性息 user ID and password to view tutorial).
An Email Management Feature in Microsoft Office 365
Clutter is an option in Microsoft鈥檚 Office 365 email designed to help manage email overload by moving 鈥渓ower priority鈥 email messages from the Inbox folder to a new folder named 鈥淐lutter鈥.听The Clutter feature is automatically turned on in Office 365 and, if used regularly, it can reduce the number of emails in your Inbox. However, to be effective, you need to train Clutter to know which emails you wish to have moved to the Clutter folder and which you want to remain in your Inbox.
Help Clutter Work More Effectively听
Over time听Clutter听adapts to your preferences as it records your choices and uses that information to identify similar messages in the future. But you can help Clutter learn your choices faster by doing the following:
- If you see a message that was sent to Clutter by mistake, move it from the Clutter folder to your Inbox.
- If you see a low priority email in your Inbox, move it to the Clutter folder.
You can examine the Clutter folder anytime, or once you're satisfied that Clutter has a good understanding of your email preferences, you can wait for a weekly email summary of what went into Clutter.
Turn Clutter Off
You can turn Clutter off anytime in Office 365.

Follow the steps at the beginning of this document to sign in to Office 365. Then, go to听Settings听>听Options听>听Mail听>听Automatic processing听>听Clutter.

Select听Don't separate items identified as Clutter, and then select听Save.
NOTE:听The Clutter folder remains in Outlook after you turn off Clutter feature.
Turn Clutter On
Clutter is turned on by default, but if you've turned it off, use these steps to turn it back on.听
- Sign in to Office 365 at for students & alumni听 or for faculty & staff .
- Go to听Settings听>听Options.
- On the left nav bar, go to听Mail听>听Automatic processing听>听Clutter.
- Select听Separate items identified as Clutter, and then select听Save.
NOTE:听If you're using the Light version of Outlook on the web, you can access messages in your Clutter folder, but not turn Clutter on or off. Turn off the Light version of Outlook on the web in听Options听>听Outlook on the web version听and clear the听Use the light version of Outlook on the web听checkbox. Your changes will take effect the next time you sign in.

Microsoft introduced a new feature that allows you to @Mention a person in the message and easily add them to the list of recipients.
This feature is very similar to tagging someone in a chat message and can make communicating in Outlook, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and other Microsoft applications more convenient.
Tips for Use
- Adding a "mention" to your messages will add that user to your To: list. The user's name will be highlighted in the message body or invite but please double-check your intent as it will also add that user to your To: list of addresses.听听
- Add a SPACE after the @ symbol if you do not want to @mention someone. This feature only looks for @name text with no space.

To Turn off the @Mentions, in Outlook for Windows
- Go to听File听>听Options听>听Mail听>听Send Messages
- Uncheck "Suggest names to mention"
Important note:听Outlook on the web, Outlook for Mac, and Outlook for Mobile currently have no way of turning off this feature.听

- Log in to webmail.听
- Select the听Settings听icon, located at the top, right of the window.听
- View all Outlook Settings.
- On the left, select听Forwarding.
- Select the听Start forwarding听radio button.听
- Enter your forward email in the听Forward my email to听field. 听
- If you'd like to keep a copy of all forwarded messages in Outlook Web App, select the check box to do so.听
- Select听SAVE听to complete the process.听

Accessing Office 365
Use these instructions to set up your 快活林性息 email on your mobile device:
iPhone and iPad iOS 11 and above
- Select the听Settings听icon on your iPhone or iPad.
- Select听Mail
- Select听Accounts
- Select听Add Account.
- Select听Exchange.
- Enter the following听Server听information:听outlook.office365.com. (Note: If you are using previous versions of the iOS, you may have to enter听outlook.office365.com听information under听Incoming Mail Server听and听Outgoing Mail Server).
- In the听Username听field, enter your username as:听firstname.lastname @ csun.edu听(no spaces).听
- Your mail program will find the mail settings to set up the account.

To delete your account, go into听Settings>Mail> Accounts听- select the account and hit delete
Android
*Depending on your Android device, these instructions may vary slightly.
- From听Applications, select the听Gmail App听button.
- Select听Settings听from the dropdown menu.
- Choose听Add (Another) Account听and select听Exchange and Office 365.
- Enter your 快活林性息 email address as听firstname.lastname @ csun.edu听(no spaces) and select听Next.
- Will be redirected to听快活林性息 Authentication Login.
- Enter your听User ID听and听Password.
- Select听Login.
- Will be redirected to听快活林性息 Duo Authentication.
- After Duo Authentication is completed, will be redirected to听Permissions requested.
- Select听Accept听to continue.
- All set and ready to use听Microsoft Exchanged 365听for听Gmail App.听

OWA (Outlook Web Access) App for Phones
Downloading the OWA app provides you with a more robust email environment.听The app provides additional functionality that you don't get through the set up of email on your phone.
What are the advantages of downloading the app?
- You can access your calendar to view and schedule appointments and meetings
- You can accept meeting requests through the app without worry
- You can view and organize all your contacts, even the personal contacts you create that are not part of the global address list
- If you are a task master, you can continue to create tasks

Email Client
Configure your email client (e.g. Outlook, Entourage) to access your account. See instructions below for some of the most popular email clients. If your email client is not on the list, please contact the听IT Help Center.
PC
Set Up Instructions (PC) 听
- From the听Start听menu, select听Control Panel.
- Select the听Mail听icon.
- Select听Mail Setup - Outlook听window displays. Select听E-mail Accounts...
- In the听Account Settings听window, select听New.
- In the听Add New E-mail Account听window, do the following:
- Enter your name
- Enter your 快活林性息 email address听(听).
- Enter your portal password.
- Re-type your password
- Select the听Next听button.
- The window displays "Configuring" as it searches for your server settings.
- If you receive the note below, enter your email address and password and select the听OK听button to continue. Otherwise, continue to the next step.
- Configuration is successful. Select the听Finish听button to complete the set-up process.

Set Up Instructions (PC) 听
- Select the Thunderbird application.
- Select听Tools.
- Select听Account Settings...
- Use the dropdown arrow on the bottom left-hand corner to select听Add Mail Account.
- Enter your听Name, 快活林性息听email address听(听) and听Password.
- Select听Continue.
- The听Mail Account Setup Window听displays your information.
- Verify听Your name听and听Email Address.
NOTE: Verify that the听Incoming听mail is set to听outlook.office365.com听and听Outgoing听mail is set to听smtp.office365.com听To edit this information, select听Edit. - Select听Create Account.
Thunderbird will process and indicate that it has located your account.
The final screen verifies your account information. - You will be prompted to enter two-factor authentication.听
- You will be asked to grant permissions. Proceed.
- Your Email account will now appear in the听Account Settings听window in the left-hand pane.

Mac
Set Up Instructions
- Select听Account Settings听from the听Entourage听dropdown menu.
- The听Accounts听window displays.
- Select the听New听icon.
- The听New Account听window displays.
- Select the dropdown arrow and select听Exchange听in the听Account type听field.
- Select the听OK听button.
Note:听If the auto-detect feature does not work, a functional account can also be created manually. - Select the听Account Settings听tab in the听Edit Account听window.
- Enter a descriptive label such as听快活林性息 Email听in the听Account name听field.
- Enter your name in the听Name听field under听Personal Information.
- Enter your听快活林性息 email听address in the听E-mail address听field.
- Enter your听快活林性息 email听(听)听in the听Account ID听field under听Authentication.
- Enter your听快活林性息 password听in the听Password听field.
Note:听You can store your password in the Mac OS keychain so that you don't have to enter it every time you access Entourage. Do not store your password if you are using a shared computer. - Select the听Advanced听tab to configure the remaining options.
- Enter听outlook.office365.com听in the听Exchange听server field under听Server Information.
- Select the box next to听This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
- Select the boxes next to听This server requires me to log in and This LDAP server requires a secure connection (SSL)听in the听LDAP server听field.
- Select听OK.

Set Up Instructions (Mac)
- Open the听Go听menu and select the听Applications听option.
- Select the听Office 2011听folder followed by the听Outlook听icon.
- From听Tools, select听Accounts听from the dropdown menu.
- From the听Accounts听window, select the听Exchange Account听icon or select the plus (+) sign in the lower left-hand corner. Select听Exchange听from the left pane.
- In the听Enter your Exchange account听information window, enter your email address, username (听) and听Password听and听Server Information听(outlook.office365.com). Leave the听Configure Automatically听option checked.
- Select the听Add Account听button.

At this time, Microsoft recommends the following configuration steps for Mac Mail, to prevent the possibility of mail loss.
Set Up Instructions听
- Select听Preferences听from the听Mail听pulldown menu.听
- Verify that the听Accounts听icon is chosen.
- If the Account wizard does not open, select the听+听symbol in the lower left corner.听
- Choose听Add Other Mail Account...听from the list of available options.听
- Enter your听快活林性息听Email Address听(听) and enter the word 鈥Password鈥 in the听Password听field.听Note:听This field is required but your actual password should not be entered here.听
- Select the听Create听button.
- Mac Mail will indicate that you have to set up the account manually. Select听Next.听
- Ensure that听IMAP听is selected.
- Enter听outlook.office365.com听for the听Mail Server.听
- Enter your听快活林性息 Email Address听(听) and听Password.听
- Select听Next.听
- Enter听smtp.office365.com听for听SMTP Server听and your听快活林性息 Email Address听(听) and听Password.听
- Select听Create.听
- Send a test email to confirm that sending/receiving is working correctly.

- Enter听outlook.office365.com听in the听Server hostname听field. The听Port听should read听993.
- Enter听smtp.office365.com听in the听Server hostname听field. The听Port听should read听587.
- Once your screen matches the identity window, select the听Done听button.
- Select听Continue.

On the听Account Name听window, make sure that you select the appropriate descriptive听label听for
this听account preference, such as Home Account, Work Account, or Exchange Account.
- Select听Continue.

On the听User Names听window, make sure that the听Thunderbird Account Wizard听has recognized
your听Incoming User name.
