IT provides database environments to the campus for application development, research,Ìýand to support various projects and business processes. The following database environments are provided:
- EnterpriseÌý– The MySQL Enterprise database environment is geared toward campus departments and organizations developing or using applications used by multiple users and are dependent on the application’s availability as well as the data needing to be kept in a stable and secure environment. Departments have the option to be their own database administrator, fully responsible for security, performance and recovery. IT also provides a hosted instance and would be responsible for all aspects of the database.
- ProductionÌý– The Oracle production database environment is a mission-critical, campus-wide, high-availability environment for storing critical data that may be confidential or highly sensitive. Usage of this environment is reserved for high-volume applications.
Following are recommendations to determine which environment is appropriate for your needs.

Faculty
For coursework or other classroom-related activities faculty may want to consider using the Enterprise database environment. Complete theÌý.

If your application and data is considered to be mission-critical, contains confidential information, requires high availability and is used by the campus community you should contact theÌýÌýto initiate a review to determine if the data should be in the Production database environment.
