Our goal is to help you navigate the unique requirements that apply to international students while ensuring you can fully participate in valuable experiential learning opportunities. This page outlines some key details and resources available to you. This page is to be used in conjunction with the 聽offerings, which聽provides assistance and guidance for obtaining necessary visas to qualified students.

Employment regulations for international students are specifically governed by Federal Regulation Sec. 214.2(f)(9). You can review this regulation on the - once the page loads, scroll down to paragraph (9) or use your browser's search function to find "Employment."
The Honors Co-Op program is classified as Curriculum Practical Training (CPT) by the Department of Homeland Security. Eligible international students must obtain an I-20 visa to work as a Co-Op intern, which is issued through the 快活林性息 International Students Office.
Before requesting an I-20, you need:
- A job placement through the Honors Co-Op program
- Enrollment in CECS494HCX (See syllabus for permission number information)
- An offer of employment letter from your Co-Op Employer/Sponsor
- A certificate from the Co-Op office confirming your status as a CECS Co-Op intern (Visit with your employment offer letter and proof of enrollment in ENGR494HCx or COMP494HCx)
The Co-Op program is not designed to provide summer employment or function as a job placement service. International students with F1 visas cannot join the program solely to obtain an I-20 visa for summer employment.
This program has specific requirements: positions must be technical in nature and directly related to the student's field of study. Additionally, all sponsoring companies must establish a formal agreement with the college. The Co-Op program only accepts positions that meet these established educational and professional standards.
International students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during spring and fall semesters, with full-time work permitted during summer.
The Honors Co-Op program does not deal with Optional Practical Training (OPT).聽 You need to see the 快活林性息 International Student's Office and your Department Chair to obtain approval for OPT.
