Admitted International Returning Students

You’ve been readmitted to ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔÏ¢. Well done! Here are your next steps:

  • If you have aÌýJ-1 visa, please visitÌýÌýfor your next steps and advisement.
  • If you have anÌýF-1 visa, review this page, noting your student group and situation below.

Based on your location inside or outside the U.S. at the time of your readmission, you'll need to complete the following instructions:

  • Inside the U.S.:ÌýAs soon as you receive our email offering admission, ask your college or universityÌýadvisor to transfer yourÌýSEVIS recordÌýto ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔÏ¢. About two or three business days after your school releases you in the SEVIS database, our willÌýemailÌýyour ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔÏ¢ Form I-20 to you.
  • Outside the U.S.:ÌýOur International Admissions Office willÌýemailÌýyour ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔÏ¢ Form I-20 to the email address you provided in your Cal State Apply admission application.

To receive your I-20 other than by email, please contact us atÌýintladm@csun.eduÌýas soon as possible to arrange one of the following options:

  • Pick up your ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔÏ¢ Form I-20 from our International Admissions Office at ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔÏ¢.
  • Ask us to hold your I-20 for a friend or family member to pick up.
  • Ask us to mail your I-20 to you or a friend or family member.

All new and returning F-1 students must complete the online "Six-Step Immigration Requirements for Newly Admitted International Students," including the mandatory Reporting Session with ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔÏ¢'s .

  • These steps allow you to maintain visa status and register for ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔÏ¢ classes.
  • You can start now atÌý.

IMPORTANT!

If you areÌýoutside the U.S.Ìýat the time of your admission, please arrange an appointment at a localÌýU.S. EmbassyÌýto secure your F-1 student visa. This can be a long process, so please make the appointmentÌýas soon as possible.

If you are unable to enter the U.S.Ìýfor the spring or fall semester of your admission,ÌýpleaseÌý.

Before you enroll in classes, make an appointment with an academic advisor for guidance on your course selections. Find an advisor based on your degree goal and major or program:

  • Bachelor’s degreeÌý– VisitÌý.
  • Master’s degreeÌý– VisitÌýÌýfor advisor contact information.

Prepare for your advisement meeting with theÌý.

Once registration begins, you should receive an email from yourÌýacademic department advisorÌýdirecting you to set up an online or in-person advising appointment.

Notes:

  • If you are majoring in science, technology, engineering or mathematics — the STEM fields — ask your advisor if taking a math or chemistry placement test is recommended. Placement tests do not affect your admission but place you into a class that matches your skill level. Do not register for a placement test unless your advisor tells you to.
  • If you are a member of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community, you will be advised by both your undergraduate or graduate academic advisor and ¿ì»îÁÖÐÔϢ’s .Ìý

To enroll in classes, you'll first need to complete the following requirements:
