CLAD Certificate Credential Program

The CLAD Certificate/EL Authorization authorizes the holder to provide the following types of instruction:

  • Instruction for English Language Development (ELD)
  • Specially Designed Academic Instruction Delivered in English (SDAIE)

Admission Requirement

You may be required to submit two online applications. 听For the Credential Program application we encourage you to start early and be prepared to scan and upload documents

1. University Application

Complete the California State University application听at听听听There is a听$70.00 application fee.听This application is not required if currently enrolled as a 快活林性息 graduate student.

2. Credential Program Application

All candidates must submit a separate online credential program application along with a nonrefundable $50.00 application fee (an additional $1.38 service fee will be accessed at checkout).

3. Transcripts听

Official transcripts from each institution you have attended (including community colleges) must be submitted with your university application.听If you are a 快活林性息 graduate, the only transcripts you are required to submit are for any other post baccalaureate coursework that you have completed at another institution.听

Electronic transcripts:

  • In your previous school鈥檚 transcript ordering system, choose "CSU Northridge" as the recipient. If this option is not available, use听registrar@csun.edu听as the recipient email address.
  • If submitting California community college transcripts, please reviewand use this convenient system.
  • If you are a 快活林性息 graduate, the only transcripts you are required to submit are for any other post baccalaureate coursework that you have completed at another institution.
  • Both Graduate Admissions and the Credentials Office will have access to your electronic transcripts, so no duplicates are needed.
  • Please do not send identical, duplicate electronic and paper transcripts!

Paper transcripts:

  • If your previous school(s) do not supply electronic transcripts, have official paper copies of your transcripts sent in unopened envelopes to:

4. Valid Credential听- Provide a copy of an appropriate valid California teaching or services credential.听

Coursework

ENGL 301 Language and Linguistics (3)
AAS/ELPS/ARMN/CHS/AFRS 417 Equity and Diversity in Schools (3)
CHS 433 or LING 427 Language Acquisition of the Chicana/o and other ESL Speakers (3)听 or Languages in Contact (3)
SED 529 Teaching English Learners in Multiethnic Secondary Schools (3)

Courses may be taken in any order.听 Only 快活林性息 courses listed in this brochure are acceptable; other 快活林性息 courses will not be considered for substitution.听 All coursework must meet the catalog requirement of not being older than seven years at the completion of the program.

A maximum of 3 units taken at a prior University may be considered for substitution. A course substitution form is available听.听SED 529 may not be substituted.

Additional Requirements

  • GPA 鈥 3.0 with no grades lower than 鈥淐鈥
  • 听Exit Portfolio -听

IMPORTANT!听Before beginning the online application, make sure you听are not logged into the 快活林性息 portal.听 All required documents must be uploaded with your online application do not mail or fax any documents.听 The only item that should be mailed are transcripts, if applicable.
